Festive celebration with teary eyes: The late Professor Dr. Werner Pfeiffer awarded with the Faculty’s Medal of Honor
On May 23rd, three highly renowned and internationally valued professors of our faculty have been awarded with the Faculty’s Medal of Honor in a festive reception given by the Mayor of Nuremberg, Dr. Ulrich Maly, in the beautiful historic town hall. Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Peter Mertens, inventor of the scientific field of Business Informatics in Germany, Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Horst Steinmann, founder of the European Business Ethics Network, and Professor Dr. Werner Pfeiffer, Professor emeritus of our chair, received the well-deserved honor for their outstanding scientific achievements from FAU’s president Professor Dr. Joachim Hornegger!
For Professor Pfeiffer, who tragically passed away on May 22nd, his daughter Reglindis Pfeiffer and his former close associate Dr. Ulrich Dörrie took receive of the Medal of Honor in a highly touching moment, expressing thankfulness for honor and deepest sympathy in the name of the whole family.
The former German Minister of Economics Affairs, Professor Dr. Helmut Haussmann, held a moving laudatory speech in which he highlighted the scientific achievements of the three laureates, including a minute of silence in memory of Professor Pfeiffer, a friend and a great colleague to many who joined this event!
However, this evening was more dedicated to festive joy than to mourning – as the relatives of Professor Pfeiffer have wished. So, Professor Dr. Veronika Grimm, Dean of our School, was leading over to a pleasant evening with good talks and good company. Among the guests: Professor Dr.-Ing. Reinhard Lerch, Dean of the Technical Faculty of FAU, and Professor Dr. Siegfried Russwurm, former CTO and Member of the Management Board of Siemens AG.
